Akaname’s sole source of purpose has always been cleaning up messes, and when he moves into the pristine and perfect Perennial Park, he has nothing to do. He becomes even more grouchy than usual and takes his grouchiness out on Tapio, spirit of clearings, by spilling things onto and rolling all over her ground. Tapio, extremely disturbed, becomes paralyzed by her own obsessive-compulsive nature and neurosis. It is not until the wind comes to her aid, knocking around Akaname and his cohorts, that she is able to retaliate.
Tapio
Once upon a time, Tapio, spirit of clearings, was happy. Our human world was new and, although much of the land was covered in rocks and trees and much too disorganized and dirty for Tapio's taste, there were many open, pristine spaces for her to inhabit. She was surrounded by chaos, but this did not frighten her. In fact, she made friends with many forest and mountain-dwelling spirits. Over the years, however, as open land became less and less available, Tapio became nervous and neurotic. She retreated inwards, keeping to herself completely. The modern world has driven her to obsessively ensure that her space is free of any imperfect or asymmetrical elements. The fact that Perennial Park is not quite a perfect circle has begun to bother her in recent years.
Akaname
Akaname, toilet brush spirit, has often had trouble making friends. He doesn't mind. For years, others have been repelled by his bad B.O. (and his infrequent bathing.) This has made him rather bristly over the years. He does his job every day, though not without complaint, and retreats back into a little enclosure, away from the world. Although slightly misanthropic, he was satisfied with his life in the apartment. Now in Perennial Park, he feels listless, purposeless. Perennial Park is unsettlingly clean.
The Bowels of the Earth
Early in the game several players receive lists of items to be sacrificed within the circle of the bathroom spirit. They are coordinated by time so that the players meet to carry out their nightly sacrilege upon toothbrushes, toilet paper, bubbly soap, and floor mats. Wedge, disguised watches them, and judges the inventiveness of their ritual destruction. At the same time other players are invited by Tapio to clear the space and restore its sacred balance, but this time Biggs watches their ritual purge. Eventually, sparked by curiosity about what is happening, the two groups encounter one another.
Zendo-n't
Akaname grows bolder and arranges debris in sculptural forms each night. The players, still performing sacrifices now find these marked with strange scrawls of approval or disapproval, and note certain abstract resemblances. Slowly they catch on that they must match the pattern that organizes Akaname's junk. The abstract pattern though matches more than just the junk, but also refers to the magic circle surrounding the bathroom, inviting players to look in one particular spot...
Free as a Bird
Tapio meanwhile has retreated into the emptiness and purity of the air, with the only the slanderous shouts from above to mark his presence. The players must find some way to contaminate even this space with junk: balloons, kites, smoke, all will drive Tapio out. Furiously Tapio flees, leaving a riddle about a spot no one will ever find him.
Lost in the Funhouse
With Tapio gone the cult members organize a game of hide and seek to draw the spirit out, with the cult members as seekers. However, after several minutes the players, one by one, realize that the cult members are not looking for them; indeed they seem to have gone missing. The players now must use their previous clues to find one or both of the hiding spirits.
